Credit amount: 50 hours of CME credits per license renewal cycle.

AMA/ACOG/AAFP/AOA: 40 (40 AOA 1-A for DOs)

Topics: All credits must be either Category 1 or Category 2 CME with the following topical requirements: 2 hours of end-of-life care CME (one-time requirement); 3 hours of opioid and pain management CME for physicians who prescribe controlled substances;10 hours of risk management CME; 3 hours of electronic health records (EHR) CME (one-time requirement); 2 hours of CME credits per chapter for reading the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine’s Regulations, 243 CMR 1.00-3.00.

The Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine (BORIM) is the governing body for CME and medical license requirements. Their mission is to:

“ensure that only qualified and competent physicians of good moral character are licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and that those physicians and health care institutions in which they practice provide to their patients a high standard of care and support an environment that maximizes the high quality of health care in Massachusetts.”
